I really depends on the craftsmanship of the piece.Right now, the raw gold in 24 karats is worth somewhere near $182.25.
The raw gold in 14 karats is worth somewhere near $110.40
That being said, your gold chain is not worth less than one of those prices. Depending on the amount of karats in it.
The true value of jewelry is usually deemed by fair market value. What an unpressured buyer would pay for it. To determine FMV, take the jewelry to a local jeweler that can give you a fair appraisal. You may also take it to a pawn shop and ask them how much they would sell it for and how much you could get if you pawned it.
